The 10 Types of Hats for Men to Know

Until the 1950s, an elegant man could not go out without his hat. The essential accessory, the headgear protected both cold and sun while being a sign of social distinction. But its use has gradually lost ... before returning (a little) in grace in the early 2000s.

You will see that the hat is really the perfect accessory to complete an outfit and be elegant. But before choosing the model you will wear, here is a guide to the main hats for men to know and try.

The Trilby
His name is taken from the eponymous novel George du Maurier, released in 1894. This small hat with short edges (less than 5 cm), is round with a low cap and rather soft. This is one of the most famous.

We find in felt, cotton cloth, straw, wool and even linen. It adapts to all seasons and is easy to wear.

The Fedora
It is also known as Borsalino, that of the most famous brand. Felt with wide edges, it was popularized by Humphrey Bogart or Jean-Paul Belmondo in the movie ... "Borsalino".

The edge is slightly downward at the front and bent up at the back while the cap is dug. It's also a classic of men's fashion.

The pork pie hat
Popularized in the 21st century by the character of Walter White in Breaking Bad, this round that is distinguished by its low, flat cap. Its name refers to pork pie, a typical British dish.

The Boater
In straw with flat edges and cap, it is usually surrounded by a ribbon. It was appreciated by sportsmen at the end of the 19th century and remains associated with the pleasures of summer. This is the perfect hat for elegant relaxation.

The top hat
With its wide and high cap, cylindrical and surrounded by a ribbon, it is very elegant but difficult to wear every day. We reserve it for very chic weddings and wear it with a tail-of-magpie. And no, we do not always bring out a rabbit.

The bowler hat
Well known, it is all around with its short edges and curved. Originally, the bowler was worn by English gamekeepers. It is associated with Charlie Chaplin. Better to choose good quality to prevent it flatten.

Panama
The real Panama is in vegetable fibers. It is supple and light and has become a symbol of elegance. The authentic can be rolled in the pocket and has a rosette on the top of the cap. It is most often ivory and surrounded by a brown or black ribbon.

The real Panama is entirely hand-woven but you can find it at any price depending on the fineness of the straw.

The cowboy hat or Stetson
It is a wide-brimmed model that was used to protect the riders. It is most often made of felt and Stetson is a particular model. This is the hat of Buffalo Bill, invented by John B. Stetson in the 1860s. It is still difficult to wear every day unless you live in Texas.

The paperboy hat
It is popular in the 19th century. Now, women or men like to stylize your look with a paperboy hat.

The beret
Symbol of France, it is soft, round, made of wool to protect from the cold. It is still very popular in the South-West and could be, like the bob, a new era of glory with the return of the fashion of the 1990s. So, ready to take out your beret?
